Golden currant is a multi-season native shrub valued for both its ornamental flowers and edible fruit. In early spring, it produces clusters of fragrant yellow flowers that attract bees and other pollinators.
These blooms are followed by small berries that ripen in summer and can be eaten fresh or used in preserves. The plant’s foliage may develop attractive fall color before dropping.
It grows well in a variety of soil types and prefers moderate water, especially during establishment and fruiting. Once established, it can tolerate some drought but performs best with occasional deep watering.
