DESCRIPTION:
Ambrosia is a California-bred pomegranate believed to be a cross between Wonderful and Pink Satin, and the result is extraordinary. It produces fantastically large fruit — reportedly up to three times the size of Wonderful — with pale pink skin and sweet-tart purple juice that is beautifully similar in character to its famous parent. The arils are a delightful mix of sweet and tangy, excellent fresh or juiced. Ripe fruit can hang on the plant for weeks without splitting, giving gardeners a generous harvest window from September through October.
In the garden, Ambrosia is as ornamental as it is productive. Large, showy orange-red blossoms cover the plant in late spring and are a favorite of hummingbirds. Like all pomegranates, Ambrosia is self-fruitful, long-lived, adaptable to a wide range of soils, and grows on its own roots — so if frost ever damages the tops, the plant recovers and produces the same fruit. It requires approximately 150 chill hours, making it highly adaptable across every East Bay microclimate from the fog belt to the warmer inland valleys. It can be trained as a tree, espalier, hedge, or container plant. A genuinely standout variety that combines beauty, versatility, and exceptional flavor.
