Summer Victory Garden Bus Tour: Explore Oakland & San Leandro's Urban Farms

Ever wondered what a "victory garden" looks like in 2026? On Sunday, August 2nd, Evergreen Nursery is teaming up with local nonprofit Tandi Family Farms for the Summer Victory Garden Bus Tour — a guided ride through four thriving urban farm and community garden sites across Oakland and San Leandro. Think of it as part garden tour, part food-resilience field trip, and part neighborhood celebration.

What Is the Victory Garden Bus Tour?

Tandi Family Farms is a young, fast-growing nonprofit with a big mission: increasing local food resilience and security by installing Victory Gardens and teaching East Bay residents how to grow more chemical-free produce right in their own backyards. Evergreen Nursery has partnered with them on past tours and events focused on organic vegetable gardening and sustainable local food production, and we're proud to host this year's bus tour basecamp.

Tour Details: Date, Time & Location

Check-In & Bus Departure

The tour kicks off at Evergreen Nursery, 350 San Leandro Blvd in San Leandro. Buses depart every 15 minutes starting at 11:15am, so arrive a few minutes early to check in and leave your car with us. The tour returns to Evergreen Nursery around 3:00pm, followed by the harvest after-party, which wraps up shortly after 4:00pm — Evergreen Nursery serves as both the starting point and the final destination for the day.

Tickets & Registration

Tickets are $10 per person and required for all guests ages 2 and up. This small fee covers group transport into neighborhoods with limited parking, so more of your ticket goes straight to supporting Tandi Family Farms' work. Once each bus sells out, additional buses open for purchase — so grab your seat early.

Four Stops on the Victory Garden Bus Tour

Stop 1: 47th Ave Beloved Community Garden

A well-loved Oakland community garden showing what neighbors can grow together in a shared urban space.

Stop 2: Lewis Ave Satellite Farm

One of Tandi Family Farms' satellite growing sites, where you'll see victory-garden-style food production scaled up for community impact.

Stop 3: Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro Garden

A hands-on look at how edible gardening is woven into local youth programming in San Leandro.

Stop 4: Davis Street Community Center School Garden

A school garden site demonstrating how Victory Gardens double as outdoor classrooms for the next generation of growers.

The Harvest After-Party

Back at Evergreen Nursery around 3:00pm, the tour wraps up with a farm-to-table harvest after-party running until shortly after 4:00pm — fresh, seasonal treats grown right in the gardens you just visited. It's the perfect way to swap stories with fellow garden lovers and meet the farmers behind the movement.
