‘Pt. Reyes’ is a vigorous selection of native kinnikinnick valued for its dense, spreading growth and dependable evergreen coverage. Its glossy green leaves form a lush, weed-suppressing mat that provides year-round texture and structure in the landscape.
In late winter to early spring, clusters of pale pink, urn-shaped flowers appear along the stems, providing an early nectar source for pollinators. Bright red berries follow the flowers, adding seasonal color while providing food for birds and wildlife.
This selection is especially useful on slopes, banks, and large open areas where erosion control and low-maintenance coverage are priorities. It spreads more vigorously than many other forms of Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, making it an excellent choice for filling space efficiently.
It thrives in well-drained soils and performs well in coastal climates, tolerating wind and salt exposure. Once established, it requires little supplemental water and benefits from minimal disturbance. ‘Pt. Reyes’ is an excellent low-water alternative to traditional groundcovers in native and habitat-friendly landscapes.
