Nursery Watering Specialist
Employment Type: Full Time, Year Round
Reports To: Nursery Manager and General Manager
Compensation: $18/hour for entry level; more based on experience

Position Overview: If you enjoy caring for outdoor plants and creating a welcoming community atmosphere, then you will enjoy working at Evergreen Nursery & Garden Center. Evergreen focuses on the sale of healthy outdoor plants and horticultural products to the public, including trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, edible plants, California Natives, and indoor houseplants.
Job Duties:
- Water, monitor, and care for outdoor nursery plants as trained and directed.
- Communicate daily with Nursery Manager regarding all plants.
- Safely move, lift, and manage all hoses and watering equipment.
- Safely move, lift, and re-arrange plants as needed for watering access.
- Assist with maintenance of the nursery, including cleaning and other duties as assigned
Competencies:
- Strong attention to plant health and related details.
- Ability to listen, read, and retain plant information.
- Self-directed and focused.
- Able to take direction and work unsupervised.
- Good inter-personal communication skills.
- Friendly disposition; enjoys being part of a team.
- Speaking and/or writing Spanish is highly desirable.
Requirements:
- Desire to significantly expand horticultural knowledge.
- Available to work 5 days per week, including some weekends.
- Capacity to work outdoors in all types of weather.
- Ability to safely lift up to 35 pounds unassisted.
- High School Diploma or equivalent plant care experience.

Nursery Associate
Employment Type: Full Time & Part Time, Year Round & Seasonal (March to June)
Reports To: General Manager
Compensation: $18/hour for entry level; more based on experience.

Position Overview:
During the spring growing season we frequently have openings for seasonal employment for day shifts on weekends and weekdays from March through June. Occasionally we also have year round position become available. Joining our team offers many opportunities for those who enjoy working with customers, caring for plants, and creating a welcoming retail shopping environment.
Essential Job Duties:
• Greet customers and visitors.
• Provide friendly and efficient customer service.
• Complete customer purchases using computer point of sale system.
• Water and groom houseplants and/or outdoor plants as directed.
• Stock, merchandise, and clean interior store displays.
• Help maintain the outdoor nursery via cleaning, signage, bulk bagging, and other duties.
• Receive and move goods physically; some heavy lifting required.
Required Skills & Abilities:
• Excellent Communications skills
• Friendly disposition; enjoy working with a variety of people
• Retail customer service experience a plus
• Spanish language skills a plus
• Love for gardening and garden plants
• Enthusiasm and initiative
• Ability to focus and retain both written and verbal information.

Landscape Maintenance Crew Member
Employment Type: Part Time, Full Time
Reports To: Landscape Services Supervisor
Compensation: Starts at $18-$20/hour Based Upon Experience

Position Overview: Our landscape division maintains residential gardens and properties for East Bay area homeowners. We deliver the same high quality service and horticultural expertise to our local landscaping customers that we provide in our retail garden center.
We offer routine maintenance and aesthetic gardening services to a well established client base. Client relationships are central to our business, and we provide more than regular “mow and blow” services.
Our landscape team has a home base at our San Leandro location. We meet there to begin our day, and we drive company vehicles. We provide both meal breaks and rest breaks. We take extra care and precautions for our entire team whenever seasonal heat or air quality warnings are in effect.
Essential Job Duties:
- Maintain a variety of bed, container, and landscaped gardens through regular weeding, pruning and watering. This includes annual and perennial flowers; shrubs, hedges, and small trees (under 15 ft), plus small lawns (turf).
- Clean up and dispose of all landscaping debris, maintaining high quality standards for all client properties.
- Transplant and water additional annual and perennial plants as assigned.
- Periodically fertilize lawn, trees, flowers and shrubs, plus spread mulch.
- Trim trees, hedges, and shrubs using both hand and power tools.
- Be comfortable and capable using hand tools including: pruning shears, soil knife, loppers, shovels, forks, rakes, and small hedge trimming saws.
- Mow and trim small residential lawns using a push mower and/or weed whacker.
- Utilize organic controls as needed to treat plant infestations and diseases. We use a limited range of people and animal safe organic chemical controls. A pesticide applicator’s license is not required for this position.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including maintaining the nursery’s outdoor landscape and assisting with care of the nursery’s plant collection.

- Spanish language skills are a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift, push, and pull 50 pounds regularly.
- Must be able to sit, bend, crawl, kneel, and reach.
- Must be able to traverse a worksite in different types of weather.
- Must be able to navigate uneven terrain.
- Must be able to climb and maneuver on outdoor stairs.
- Must be able to climb a ladder (we prune small trees under 15 feet).
- Must be able to sustain long periods of physical labor in all seasons.
Other Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
- Current and valid California Driver's License.
- Hands-on horticulture, gardening or agricultural knowledge is a plus.
- Capable of learning new equipment and tools as needed.
- Must be available to work Monday through Friday.
