Vaccinium corymbosum 'O' Neal'
General description: Southern highbush variety (low chill hours, heat tolerant). Often considered to have the best flavor of the Southern Highbush varieties, with large dark blue fruit that matures very early and for an extensive season. Attractive gray-green foliage remains evergreen in mild winters; turns brilliant red before falling in colder climates. Self-pollinating, but planting with other varieties will yield more fruit.
Flavor: Large fruit, especially sweet and flavorful.
Growth habit: Moderate growing; rounded, spreading form reaches 5 ft. tall, 6 ft. wide. Suitable for containers or growing in the ground.

Bloom Season: White bell shaped flowers in Spring.
Harvest Season: Early summer
Sun: Full sun (minimum six hours.)
Planting/Water Needs: Best grown in acidic (pH of 4.8 to 5.2), organically rich, medium to wet, well-drained soil. Shallow, fibrous roots need constant moisture and good drainage. Plants appreciate a good organic mulch.
