Planting bulbs in fall for spring color is really simple. The basic premise is to just dig a hole at the proper depth, place the bulb in the hole (pointy side up) then bury it. Water them well when you’re done. When you buy your bulbs, look at the package instructions or information sheets to determine the planting depth.
You can plant them in rows or clusters or just at random. Mix and match different varieties and colors for a cheery, natural look. You can also plant bulbs together that have different bloom times for a continuous color display.
To easily carry out your design or planting plan, lay out the bulbs on the soil surface first. Dig them in where they sit so you won’t lose track of any design you planned. Plant bulbs in full sun for the best results!
